Class peptide immunosuppressant
Action Calcineurin inhibitor, modulates T-cell function and increases goblet cell density.
Usage Indicated to increase tear production where tear production is presumed to be
suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
Adverse Reactions 17% to 22% report pain or burning on instillation with cyclosporine .
Contraindications Active ocular infections and hypersensitivity to any ingredients in the formulation.
Pediatric use Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients. Transplant recipients
as young as one year of age have received cyclosporine with no unusual adverse effects.
Pregnancy Embryo- and fetotoxic in rats and rabbits following oral administration
at 5000 and 32000 times the normal numan dose.
Undetectable in blood following 0.05% ophthalmic administration.
Can be used concomitantly with artificial tears, allowing 15 minutes between products.

Unpreserved emulsion contains chondroitin sulfate, glycerin, and other lubricants. It is
speculated that the chondroitin could benefit corneas stressed with contact lens wear1.
