Class peptide immunosuppressant
Action Calcineurin inhibitor, modulates T-cell function.
Usage Indicated to increase tear production where tear production is presumed to be
suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
Adverse Reactions Pain on instillation (22%) and conjunctival hyperemia (6%).
Contraindications Active ocular infections and hypersensitivity to any ingredients in the formulation.
Pediatric use Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients below the age of 18.
Pregnancy Oral administration to rats at the equivalent to 3200x human ophthalmic dose is teratogenic.
Can be used concomitantly with artificial tears, allowing 15 minutes between products.
Micelles (aggregates of surfactant molecules) said to aid cell penetration.
