Class Ketone, alcohol derived, fluorinated "soft" steroid.
Action Anti-inflammatory
Usage Indicated for inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment and adnexia.
Can cause significant IOP rise in as little as 1 week but somewhat less likely to do so
than the other ketone based steroids so is sometimes used for longer term therapy.
Contraindications Herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia, varicella, and most other viral diseases of cornea and
conjunctiva; tuberculosis; fungal diseases; acute purulent infections which may be masked
or enhanced by the steroid; and hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation.
Pediatric use > age 2
Pregnancy Category C. Embryocidal and teratogenic in rabbits at low multiples of the human ocular dose.
Fungal and bacterial overgrowth, cataract formation, globe perforation possible with
long term use.
