Activity | Active against a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes Escherichia coli; Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Serratia marcescens. |
Usage | Indicated in the treatment of external infections of the eye and adnexa. |
Increasing resistance from community-acquired infections including Pseudomonas spp., Staphylococcus aureus and other Staphylococcus spp. and others. Aminoglycoside toxicity possible with pre-sensitized pts. or with extended use. |

Contraindications | Known hypersensitivity to any of its components. |
Pediatric use | > 2 months |
Pregnancy | There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Systemic use can cause permanent fetal hearing loss. 500x the human ophthalmic dose in Pregnant rats causes depresesses body weight in newborns. |
Consider using a newer fluoroquinolone. | |
