Class Mast cell stabilizer / antihistamine
Action Relatively selective H1 antagonist / inhibits release of inflammatory mediators.
Usage Indicated for the treatment of itching of allergic conjunctivitis.
Contains BAK which may be absorbed into soft lenses.
Wait at least ten minutes after instilling Optivar before inserting contact lenses.
Contraindications Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
Pediatric use > age 3
Pregnancy Category C. Teratogenic in mice given orally 25,000 times the human
ophthalmic dose.
