Class aminoglycoside, corticosteroid
Action Aminoglycosides inhibit bacterial protein synthesis.
Corticosteroids inhibit arachidonic acid release .
Activity Active against a variety of aerobic bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa,
Haemophilus influenzae, Staph aureus, and Serratia marcescens.

Usage Indicated for ocular surface and palpebral conjunctival inflammation
where a risk of bacterial infection exists.
Glaucoma and cataract risk with extended use.
Contraindications Acanthamoeba, most viral, mycobacterial, and fungal disease.
Hypersensitivity to any component.
Pediatric use Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Pregnancy Systemic use of gentamycin during pregnancy can cause fetal hearing loss.
Prednisolone is teratogenic in mice at 1-10 times the human ocular dose.
Exercise caution with severe or unresponsive keratitis as
steroids will exacerbate many nonbacterial infections.
