Class amino ester local anesthetic
Action Voltage-gated sodium channel antagonist prevents nerve impulse propagation.
Usage Corneal anesthesia prior to tonometry, gonioscopy, removal of foreign bodies, etc.
30 second onset, lasting 10 - 20 minutes
Contraindications Hypersensitivity to tetracaine or any ingredients in the ophthalmic solution.
May be used with caution in patients with cardiac disease, or hyperthyroidism.
Warnings Not intended for patient self-administration. Long term use can result in corneal opacification.
Pediatric use Safety and effectiveness is established for pediatric use.
Pregnancy Category C. No adequate human or animal studies have been conducted.
Chlorobutanol preservative.
                    More pain on instillation than proparacaine.
